Konami’s Korean division is suing Korean game developer Pentavision, creators of the popular DJMax series (which started off as a now-defunct online game, enjoying releases on the PSP taking advantage of its lack of region lock, and has recently begun a multiplatform assult with its “Metro Project”, a string of new PSP releases and a multitouch screen arcade game, DJMax Technika, which has been popular in Korea and is currently in tests in North America) for copyright infringement. Of course you couldn’t copyright the idea of mashing buttons to music, only expressions of it! However, if Konami takes this to that court in Texas that loves to deal with patents and give the accusor the long end of the stick, I can’t wait to see what will happen.
Blah blah blah I am the king of the world blah blah blah cease manufacturing blah blah blah give me all your money blah blah blah.
With the recent performance of Konami’s music games in the US anywhere other than Japan, being thrashed by the popularity of Guitar Hero and its many offsprings, seems like the only way they’re making money now, is through lawsuits.
