We’ve been making decisions on the future of IIDXfreak, so we have decided not to even cover Bemani anymore after this. We are changing to become a fan site of the world’s greatest game show, The Price is Right!

So come on down to the all-new IIDXfreak! Where the price is always right!

Is this the future of beatmania?

Okay, this is important stuff, this is what we were talking about. One of our friends saw a page about this on Konami’s web site, but for some reason it was quickly taken down so we don’t know if this is real or not, but what we now know is this, there will be no CS version of Sirius. However, this new page contained many references “beatmania IIDX CONNECT”, which according to the page is an “instant action music experience game”, which we are assuming in accordance with the rest of the page, means this is going to be an online version of beatmania for PC’s. The choice of name also seems to suggest there might be some multiplayer components too.

The page mentioned that there will be a free version of the game with limited music, and “EXCLUSIVE MUSICS” and unlockable items will be available through a sort of cash shop system and through integration over e-AMUSEMENT with the arcade versions. There were also references made to a “new sequence mode”, and what seems to be a future bundle which will include the game, all the songs from beatmania IIDX 17, a USB “classic controller”, and references to the possibility of future bundle discs. Could this be the new way they’ll be distributing styles? As a sort of “module” for CONNECT? There were also references to a currently untitled wac album as a pre-order offering, but we’re not quite sure.

We do not exactly know why it’s like this, yet, although it strangely seems to be employing the model that many Korean games have followed, especially DJMAX, it’s suspicious to say the least.

If we receive any updates on this, we will post them A.S.A.P.

Update @ 10:35am:

Yes, the “new sequence mode” is looking alot like the DJMAX “flank” layout, just as we suspected. We might get screenshots soon, we have learned that someone, wishing to remain anonymous, is in a closed beta test of CONNECT and may be able to leak us a screenshot.

Update 2:

Nice one.

Oh yeah, watch what they did to the lyrics, its amazing.

Trying to bring this place back from the dead, we may just go ahead and cover all Bemani games in a way since this “only beatmania” thing is getting out of hand. We know you probably haven’t been reading this site a lot since I’ve been on a hiatus on actually doing stuff for it, and all of the other fan sites out there have been making coverage too.

Right now, I am seriously, and without any joke, asking you, if you still read this site, what should we do to make it better? If we added a forum again, would you actually use it? What should we cover, and how much? And would you actually help in contributing to it?

Long story short, we’re back, and a new theme will come when IIDX 18 is announced, I promise.

You remember when we reported that nice Christmas Eve morning that Pentavision was sued by Konami blah blah blah DJMAX rips off our patented music game blah blah blah? Well, it seems like the two may have finally made nice somehow:

You’d think this wouldn’t happen due to any potential similarity and/or overlap with it to Jubeat, but the blog for CAT’S EYE has reported it will host a location test for DJMAX Technika starting on the 10th. But, even more interesting, it also reports that Konami will handle distribution of it in Japan! Amazing. Least they didn’t just buy up the rights to the franchise like they did with … that other game. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen the bizarre twist of Konami distributing the products of its competitors, it helped out with Guitar Hero Arcade.

Well here’s something fun, if you’re a music producer living in Japan, Konami’s having a little contest, they want remixes of one of 12 particular songs from Sirius. Winner gets a trip to Konami’s HQ in Roppongi, and gets on the Sirius OST. Yes, it is Japan only.

Songs to choose from are:

  • Elisha
  • Miracle Meets
  • Drop
  • G59
  • She is my wife
  • Dominion
  • Galgalim
  • Bad Maniacs
  • Programmed Sun
  • Bloomin’ Feeling
  • Kazuasobi
  • With Me

And if we haven’t made it clear enough already, Japan only.
